Full course description
This course will teach you why and how to use Patterns of Power in your high school classroom. Patterns of Power refers to a method of teaching grammar and conventions of language in an inquiry-based way, focusing on meaning making and transfer in authentic texts rather than simply memorizing rules. The structure of the program positions students to explore grammar as "special effects" that activate meaning and enhance their writing. It encourages students to notice, compare, and contrast sentence structures, eventually applying these patterns in their own writing. Patterns of Power uses discourse and collaboration as a structure to increase meaning making and facilitate authentic transfer.
